My favorite decorating programs show designers picking out perfect items for their perfectly planned rooms. Some invisible crew is doing all the hard work and time flies. Usually there isn't a budget and never, never do they have a toddler for an assistant. And that is where reality strikes. I want a perfectly designed and decorated nursery for our little boy, but the real-life challenges around here have left me far from inspired or motivated.
Nearly a month ago I started painting the yellow nursery a soft off white to go with the jungle safari theme. Unfortunately, off-white over yellow with all the edges exposed and in need of another coat looked terrible. I couldn't just leave it, but I was tempted when my exhaustion was all I could think about. Then a friend came over and saved the day and helped me by edging around the bottom of the room. That much inspiration was enough to get me started and I finally finished painting the room today.
I also went accessory shopping. I was in need of storage or a table to have by the chair and some other miscellaneous items. So, I set off for Goodwill. I quickly looked across the furniture section and didn't see the "perfect thing." But I did see a large wicker basket with a lid that was end-table height. "It could solve the issues and still go with the theme, but it is more than I was wanting to spend..." I decided to think about it and finish looking around the store. I always feel so divided when I shopping with my children, my mind on 20 different things. You mothers out there know what I am talking about. And then I saw a guy making a b-line toward my basket and I had to think fast. I claimed the basket by putting it in my cart and the man glared as he passed by me.
Here is a preview of some of the room's accessories. I hope to have the room completely done this week. And then I will sit back and enjoy being kicked in the bladder, lungs, and kidney's, trying not to think about the acid sitting in my throat, or all my achy muscles for the next 3 weeks.
My basket/table....
A few jungle-y things. I was so proud of these pillows I found at Costco for $11 for 2. My husband said, "No wonder," after seeing them. He is not seeing the room's vision, obviously....
